Coconut-vanilla balls of power
We do like balls of power, right? 🙂
This is the kind of a healthy, sweet peccadillo we can treat ourselves to, especially in between training and workout sessions.
Since I have a weak spot for coconuts, I often slip them into my dishes, especially into healthy snacks.
Today I’d recommend coconut-vanilla balls molded out of millet groats and sweetened with dates – it tastes heavenly. Be sure you give them a try :).
Here’s the list of the mysterious, nutritious ingredients:
Almonds – are a source of B group vitamins, vitamin E, calcium and zinc, and the presence of monounsaturated fatty acids contributes to the proper functioning of the vascular system. They are also a source of magnesium and potassium. These two elements support the proper functioning of muscles and the nervous system, and calcium – which they also contain – is involved in the proper contraction and relaxation of muscles.
Coconut flakes – coconut is the source of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), which are like an immediate shot in the arm for the body. Flakes, due to the large amount of fiber, will effectively promote hunger satisfaction and give you a feeling of satiety for longer periods of time.
Dates – are a rich source of carbohydrates, which quickly give you a boost of energy, so they work especially well as a snack before, after, or during the training, and the B group vitamins in their content will support your body’s use of carbohydrates. Dates also contain a large amount of potassium, which participates in the conduction of nerve impulses, muscle contraction, blood pressure regulation, and restocking of glycogen stores. Prolonged exercise leads to a reduction in the amount of this element in the body and because of this people who are physically active should pay particular attention to the adequate glycogen intake in their diet. Dates are also a source of fiber that favorably affects bowel function and supports the intestinal microflora, which contributes to normal energy metabolism.
COCONUT-VANILLA BALLS
Preparation:
First, I soaked both the dates and almonds.
Next, I rinsed the millet groats twice with running water and boiled it in coconut milk (I added a little water first). Do so until the groats absorb the liquid. Then, I put it away so that it could cool. As the next step, I added dates, spices and a few drops of vanilla essence, and then mixed the whole thing. Next, I molded it into balls and placed one almond in the center of each ball of power. When I’d coated them with coconut flakes, all I had to do now was to put them in the fridge overnight.
Enjoy!
