November 1st

These few days are special – they are often called “remembrance days”. We get together with our families to think and talk about those who passed away. These days are considered as days of sadness.

For a few days now, the main subject of my conversations with my family and friends has been this special day and its specific character. I was able to travel back in time by listetning to my relatives’ stories about the past, to travel to the world I didn’t know or I didn’t remember. And you know what? We figured out that when you have enough personal stories about your ancestors you can’t stay sad. On the contrary.

We are so lucky! We are the first generation to live a life without war, hunger, occupants or an epidemic. The memories and experiences of older people are sad and often tragic. Many of them had to leave a life without any hope for a better tomorrow.

We live in peace, we have freedom of choice. We also had the chance to experience a digital revolution which gave us something incredible – the Internet. It made the world smaller and more accessible.

The world as we see it now is certainly not perfect. There is still a lot that needs to change, a lot to be done in the countries that suffer from hunger or poverty. And a lot to be done here in Poland. But comparing to our ancestors we really have excellent living conditions. Let’s not spoil it and let’s appreciate each and every day. And also, let’s make sure that those bad times never come back.
