Plantain des sables (Plantago scabra), Sand Plantain (1)

I have a few words for you about the vital fiber – natural supplement used to supplement the shortage of fiber, which comes from food.

Advantages of vital fiber:

  • cleanses the intestine
  • prevents constipation
  • improves digestion
  • induces satiety
  • lowers blood pressure (binds sodium ions)
  • it is helpful in obtaining the correct level of cholesterol
  • It helps obese people and dieters, because apart from inducing satiety  its absorbing  carbohydrates and fats
  • It helps to remove toxins from the body

Vital fiber can be found in psyllium and plantago ovata.

Plantago psyllium is a plant known as the source of health. It is the most popular vital fiber served as a natural supplement. I am sure that you know these little brown seeds which after mixing with water are creating mucus.  Thanks to the release of mucus  ”things” stuck in the intestines begin to move, and that’s why  psyllium is recommended for constipation. The use of Psyllium affect the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. A large amount of fiber it contains (100 g of seeds is it up to 68 g) lowers blood sugar levels for people with type 2 diabetes. However, in case of diabetes its necessary to consult a doctor before using psyllium.

Psyllium can be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

It is not recommended when facing problems with bowel obstruction, hypersensitivity to the vital fiber, vomiting, diseases of the esophagus, bleeding from the anus, nausea or spastic muscles condition.

Because the seeds of Plantago Psyllium may cause a delay in the absorption of other drugs, you need to remember to keep certain hour interval in their intakes.  It is recommended to use it 2 times a day.

Psyllium  and plantago psyllium can be found in pharmacies, herbal stores and healthy food shops.
