Eggs were always considered healthy. But a several years ago a huge wave of criticism hit them. Eggs were found guilty. Legitimisation? Cholesterol! We were warned about the consequences of eating more than 4 eggs a week.

Fortunately, scientists proved that eggs do not kill our cilculatory system. They appealed and eggs were found not guilty. What’s more, we were reminded how healthy they actually are!

What is actually so good about eggs?

  1. Protein. A medium egg contains about 6,3 g of the most valuable protein: it contains the biggest number of amino acids of all products. There also are essential amino acids – the ones that can be synthesized from scratch by our organisms. Egg yolk contains more of the fiber that is easily absorbed!
  2. Vitamins. All of them, except for vitamin C. B vitamins and all fat dissolvable vitamins.
  3.  Minerals. In a medium egg (50 g) we can find: 26,5 mg of calcium, 0,9 mg of iron, 6,0 mg of magnesium, 67,0 mg of potassium, 70,0 mg of sodium, 0,6 mg of zinc, 0,1 mg of copper, 15,8 mcg of selen and 0,5 mcg of fluorine.
  4. Fat. Every 5 g of fat from one egg contains only 0,1 g of ‘bad’ saturated fatty acids.
  5. Carotenoids. Beta-Carotene, criptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin. The last two are the only carotenoids that can be found in human’s eye, cumulated in the eyespot’s pigment. They are very important for the sight and prevent macula from degenerating.
  6. Choline. It takes part in brain building and brain and nervous system’s functioning. It reduces cholesterol absorption and the amount of homocysteine thus decreasing the risk of arteriosclerosis.

What about cholesterol? Cholesterol is essential for us. Human bodies produce it, but also use the one found in food. It has been proven that the level of ‘bad’ cholesterol is genetically conditioned – some of us just need to be careful. Eggs really contain a lot of cholesterol, but mother nature was smart enough to also put lecithin into eggs, which regulates the level of cholesterol. To be honest, much more of it can be found in sweets and modified products.

An egg eaten for breakfast helps you lose weight. It helps you stay full thanks to valuable protein and fats. As it decreases the level of cortisol (which is very high in the morning) we don’t experience any hunger pangs during the day.

The richest in minerals are soft boiled eggs and scrambled eggs (but steamed). I also recommend adding egg yolks (from good and checked farms) to cocktails.

A cocktail:

  • A banana
  • Coconut water
  • 2 egg yolks

I’ve already written on how to buy eggs HERE.
