What’s so special about turmeric?

The active substance responsible for the orange color is curcumin. It works primarily anti-inflammatory, it also has strong antioxidant activity – inactivates free radicals, which are formed during stress, intense workouts during high mental or physical work.

It has been shown that supplementation / administration of curcumin accelerates regeneration and reduces athletes muscle pain. Studies confirm that  that an anti-inflammatory turmeric is most strongly acting on arthritis. In studies of patients with rheumatoid arthritis the administration of curcumin produced stronger effects than the administration of anti-inflammatory drugs.

Turmeric reduces the risk of heart disease, speeds up digestion, relieves depression, is used prophylactically to treat Alzheimer’s.
Turmeric benefits:

  • helps fighting the infections
  • eliminates cold sores (turmeric in combination with the honey – apply for cold sores)
  • antibacterial (in India used to wash wounds)

According to Ayurvedic medicine adding curcumin pepper (which contains piperine), is resulting in better absorption of curcumin. It is worth it to eat turmeric with fat. After 1 hour of an intake the concentration of metabolites of turmeric is highest.
