HABITS

‘Workouts are like brushing my teeth; I don’t think about them, I just do them. The decision has already been made.’  This quote by Patti Sue Plammer, the American athlete, has been motivating people for years.

What she says is that you need to make workouts your habit. Do you think about how you hate brushing your teeth everyday? Do you ever think ‘Ok, I’ll brush my teeth tomorrow then’? Or do you ever say: “Ok, I’ll start brushing my teeth from Monday on’? No. And that’s what’s it all about. Accepting the fact that there are some things you just need to do.

At the beginning you tend to think about every training a lot. There’s sweat, pain and sometimes dissapointment – you didn’t think your condition was that bad. If you don’t give up and continue to workout, you’ll see that fun becomes more important than all these inconvenience. There’s satisfaction, effects, your body mass goes back to normal. You try to break your own records, you compete. You share your successes with your loved ones and sport becomes the center of your universe.

And there’s the other side – the people that surrendered and sit on their couches. They have built so many barriers between themselves and possible workouts there’s no way out. Exercising is impossible, because there’s a million reasons not to do it. They obviously are aware of the fact that it’s healthier to actually workout, but it’s not for them – they’re too fat, too skinny, they have too much on their plates etc…

Workouts are easy for those who treat them like Patti Sue Plammer does. Like a fixed component of everyday life. You usually need years of experience to get there, but I also know people that were so strongly motivated they treated workouts as a habit from the very beginning.

The ones that prefer staying on their couch will never get the chance to get there. They strengthen bad habits like resting after meals, eating in between meals or drinking beer. It’s just gonna get harder to fight those habits as they happen everyday and become rituals.

Dear couch potatoes! Get up! Start training with us! We’ll support you!

I wish for all of my readers to make sport their habit in 2016.

Fingers crossed!
