Move! Part 2- basics

I have written about hypokinesis already. Immobility is as dangerous as debilitating addictions!

That is why today I want to remind you about the basic benefits of daily physical activity. We think we know everything, but due to the daily tasks  and stress its easy to forget why we should move our butt off the couch.

Regular physical activity :

  1. It improves the intestinal flora . As we already know  the correct microflora is a prerequisite for the health of the whole system , including the brain. You can read about it in the studies done by prof . Monika R. Fleshner ( Department of Integrative Physiology , University of Colorado) .
  2. Extends life . Really, this is not an empty phrase . I wrote about it HERE . Statistical difference in life expectancy is made even by even a small , but frequent activity , eg . daily 20 – minute long walk can reduce the risk of premature death by 20 % , as shown by prof . Ulf Ekelund (Norwegian School of Sports Sciences, University of Cambridge ) .
  3. It improves the physical condition of the body : it protects you against cancer ( or slowing down cancer development ) , cardiovascular and vision diseases. It improves sexual function as well as  many other funtions.
  4. Slows aging and protects against old age . Seniors exercising regularly are physically and mentally younger by at least 10 years!  as shown by the study of Dr. Clinton Wright of the University of Miami .
  5.  Significantly improves mental health. It calms the emotions , regulates mood. The risk of psychiatric disorders in people who exercise is less than half comparing with other as shown by prof . Romo Rodriguez from the University of Madrid. Exercising schizophrenics have better prognosis!
  6. It is effective in fighting depression. Jasper Smits of Unniversity of Dallashave shown that exercise influence on the same neurotransmitters as antidepressants .
  7. Improves brain function. Research conducted at the University of Illinois have shown that people who regularly practiced over the years have a greater volume of the hippocampus , the part of the brain responsible for memory. The reactions of the endocrine system created during the training support the work of the mind .

The above points are just a short and strong signals that should stuck in your mind permanently.
